As far as I know this is a valid name in Europe and Index Fungorum seems to agree. It isn’t clear if this species actually occurs in the US, but in some cases there currently is no better name to apply.

Changed the author citation it “(Scop. : Fr.) Pers.” based on Rod Tulloss’ comment.
