Notes: Surprise Lake Trail leads from US Highway 2 to the high alpine lake. The trail follows the outflow of the lake through original old growth sitka spruce, douglas fir, western red cedar and western hemlock forest. Undergrowth is largly huckleberry, vine maple and devils poker. The trail is well maintained, uses extensive boardwalks over sensitive wetlands and is a popular day hike or weekend backpack destination.
