Comment on Suillus sp. (14645)
Created: 2008-11-27 13:30:59 By: Dimitar Bojantchev (dimitar) Summary: That makes it very suspicious — not been seen by Dr. Thiers for 40 years. Comment: In general I do not like collections that have such a dubious distinction. Always makes them doubtful. But I doubt that Dr. Thiers hasn’t seen it for 40 years since Bessette mentions it from California, as well as Arora speaks about it being collected on the West Coast. Also, these collections comes from an exceptionally well traveled area that is being frequented by MSSF people. If someone thinks this is something else, I’m very curious to hear it. I myself am not entirely sold on the id, but I can’t see another brunnescent Suillus species from our area. D. |
