Comment on Amanita sp. Pers. (10419)

By: Rod Tulloss (ret)

Summary: Mexican rubescent Amanitas

Comment: There are two(at least) or more rubescent amanitas in Mexico based on collecting in a single area on el volcán la Malintzi (Malinche) some years back.
It is possible that A. brunneolocularis is also present in Mexico since it has been found from Honduras to Colombia as well as in the Appalachian mtns. of North Carolina. The next time Alan (or any other MO member) is in Mexico and can obtain dried material of this species, I have a student with an interest in working on the rubescent species of the “New World” and would provide a good home for dried material.

For some reason, MO is putting “Pers.” after “Amanita sp.” this afternoon; and I can’t dissuade it from doing this…
