Summary: being cautious with this ID…
Only two of the specimens show orange on the skirt (partial veil) and in scraps on the stipe. I have seen the white-or-pale-stiped variant with yellow skirt and stipe-scraps before…in material sent to me from east Texas by David Lewis.
If I can locate my information on that, I’ll edit this post. It seems to me the spores differed from the variant with orange parts.
…shortly thereafter…
I didn’t find an exact reference to the material of which I was thinking. I checked the key to the species of Amanita stirps Hemibapha at
http://eticomm.net/...
The bottom line is that, IF IT IS POSSIBLE, I would like to see well-dried amanitas from the site in question divided into categories by FRESH colors of the caps (be overly strict, it makes it easier on me), FRESH colors of the skirts, FRESH colors of the stems, and FRESH colors of the scraps of material left on the stems during expansion.
Amanita section Caesareae is a group in which I am very interested.
Very best,
Rod
