No herbarium specimen
Notes: This specimen was high in a Stringy Bark (Australian native tree) and I had to stand on the top of the racks on the 4wd to get close enough for a shot. As can be seen the Sky is the background. There was a lot of lichen on the branches and a fresh water stream was adjacent. The area had a lot of Elkhorns, Staghorns, and Tree ferns.
Extract Des: Caps to 50mm across, convex to centrally depressed or funnel-shaped on a central stem. It is characterised by the medium-sized coffin-shaped pores. The thin caps are tough and leathery when fresh, becoming brittle when dry. Fruit bodies solitary or gregarious on dead wood in various forest habitats. Spores c. 8 × 2.5 micu-m, cylindrical, smooth. Spore print white.(end description)
The colour of the reference specimen is more grey than the image displayed, but I credit this to the backlighting conditions and the age of the fungi..
