Collection location:
Lake Absaraka, Cheyenne, Wyoming [Search]
Who:
Barry Hammel (bhammel)
No herbarium specimen
Species Lists:
Mushrooms of Southeast Wyoming (32)
Notes: Growing in lawn grass at edge of the lake, by a road. Naively, I thought it was an easy one, didn’t notice any odor other than nicely mushroomy, nor know to watch for the color stain, which from the lower photo, on stem, looks brownish.

Summary: Doubt it’s A. campestris
It is certainly an Agaricus. However, A. campestris is pure white. This actually looks more like A. bisporus or one of the other red-staining Agaricus species. On the other hand, it may well be one of the yellow staining almond scented species. However, without confirming the staining reaction or at least have a description of the odor it will be essentially impossible to get to species.
