Observation: Lactarius sp. Pers. (11573)

When: 2008-09-16
Collection location: Eastern Long Island, New York, USA [Click for map]
Who: Douglas Smith (douglas)
No herbarium specimen

Species Lists:
Species of New York State (49)

Notes: Found under mostly oaks, pines were close enough sometimes. Medium sized brown job, mild taste, latex is clear to slightly whey-like. The gills show signs of brown stains and spotting. I cut one section of the gills, and carried the ’shroom around for 10-20 mins, and actually, there was no sign of staining from the latex itself. Not sure what that means, but the small browm stains were seen in each cap, and no sign that the stains came from the latex.
